The first time I witnessed this genius was in a Hitchcock film called Lifeboat. Sadly enough I never saw him again until I watched a Documentary last year called “The Red Channels.” It was a painful doc highlighting the struggle several African American artists suffered during Hollywoods lockdown on Communism. While some artists such as my main chick Lena Horne and Harry Belefonte were able to come out of this terrible time and continue with their successful careers, others such as Canada Lee were not.
His career and life was cut far too short. A civil rights activist, and an actor, a boxer… Canada Lee had all the makings of a great artist.
Let us remember those who are sometimes forgotten, in this case, let’s salute Canada.
” I walk in the footsteps of Giants.”
